HATE - The Literal Demonization of Israel
Just as a solitary example: The hate-Israel posts of Susan Abulhawa
This week I wrote a piece in the Times of Israel blog on the subject of ”Anti-Israel Activism: How it was. What it’s become – Part I”. I noted the general approach over the decades of Israel’s “Detractors” in the United States; and noted how in recent years it’s evolved (regressed) at least in some quarters, to advocating Israel’s destruction - especially since October 7th.
Anyone active on social media will have seen posters excoriating Israel as demonic; Zionism and Zionists as evil and openly-advocating - without euphemisms - the elimination of Israel and the “return” of the Jews of Israel to Europe. And yet I don’t see much condemnation of such comments from the ostensible “moderates.”
To take just the one example -there are of course, many others - look at the comments of Susan Abulhawa. Her Wikipedia bio whose work have been published by Simon and Schuster and who was speaking last month to the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) - The Quakers - in Philadelphia. Can read all the “Tweets”/”Posts” of Susan Abulhawa
It’s one thing to criticize or condemn Israel or Israeli leaders for their actions and policies- even if one may feel some of the criticism made are one sided or ignore context etc.
But if you’re advocating the extermination of the Jewish State and characterizing Israelis - and Zionists - as almost subhumans - that should put you beyond the pale from any ostensible universe in the West. Especially if you’re calling yourself for peace or human rights.
Now obviously some people don’t seem to have a problem advocating the destruction of Israel. Or see others doing so so. I personally do!
