Relitigating The Existence of Israel
The Increasing Advocacy of the Eradication of Israel
This is something I’m going delve into in greater detail; but just to make a brief not of something I find both politically disturbing and personally upsetting: The growth in the public advocacy of “No Acceptance of any Israel.” And people on Social media being publicly prepared to say it. Without euphemisms. Not urging a “Two State solution.” Not urging a “One State solution.” Simply urging a Palestinian (meaning Palestinian Arab state) with no concern whatsoever with the seven million Jewish inhabitants of Israel. Just “Israel shouldn’t have been created - and should be “uncreated.” With Israel being described with words such as “Demonic.” Whether such phrases and actions are “antisemitic” or "‘merely” Anti-Zionist is to me not worth the time for discussion.
And of course it’s not just that these are views are being held; but they are openly expressed - without any shame or restraint. And if and when you respond to such statements on social media; those anti-Israel views attract a torrent of support.
This is far more distressing and significant than the accusations of “Genocide” or taking Israel to International authorities or asserting that Israel is an “Apartheid State.” Although there has obviously a certain evolution to getting to this point (or reverting to this point.) The “Whys” are interesting and worthy of discussion. But the central point is this is occurring.
I’m not going to engage in a debate here over whether Israel’s actions these past 18 months may have contributed in any way to this. Or whether any of Israel’s action over the years or decades has done anything to bring this about. To cut to the quick; I would suggest that in any meaningful way; hatred of Israel is not because of what Israel does but because Israel exists. And the widest concessions that Israel conceivably could make would still require an acceptance of Israel. Which for many of these people; is just not on.
For Friends and supporters of Israel; perhaps there should be less infighting and more focus on the bigger picture of supporting and gathering support for Israel. And yes I’m very, very aware of all the obstacles and concerns!
