I imagine every American Jew and Friend of Israel -especially in Washington DC- is shocked, outraged, disgusted and perhaps thinking "There but for the grace of G-d..." at last night's murder of 2 Israeli Embassy staffers. At a US Jewish (American Jewish Committee) event. At the Capital Jewish Museum.
Many have posted statement or tweets denouncing the killings. Even some “critics” of Israel have (somewhat) condemned the killings. A sizable number of “Critics” have yet to say anything on this subject even as they continue to post about “bad Israel.” But to give them the benefit of the doubt; perhaps they still will comment (perhaps after they’ve carefully parsed the wording of their statement. Perhaps to put the killings “into context.”)
Meanwhile some conspiracy theorists and Israel haters are “just asking” - Was it really a false flag operation?
And the view: Two Israeli dead get such attention. But not the larger number of killed in Gaza.
Just illustrating that hate for Israel, for Zionism and for supporters of Israel is strong.
As I wrote a couple of weeks ago in Times of Israel Anti-Israel Activism: How it was. What it’s become – Part I
And as I posted on Substack a couple of weeks ago "HATE - The Literal Demonization of Israel" highlighting a few "hate-Israel posts" of one individual ("Wipe Israel off the Map" Susan Abulhawa). But she is just one and the vitriolic hatred and dehumanization extends much further.
Thank you, Michael, for not ascribing the murders of Yaron Lischinsky ז״ל and Sarah Milgrim ז״ל to generalized antisemitism (like the "Tree of Life" massacre in Squirrel Hill) but to hatred of Israel. That does not make the murders any less heinous, but it does make them different.
As for the conspiracy mongers, to hell with them.
They are no different than those on the "other side" who refuse to feel compassion for the innocent victims in Gaza. These people are all the same, although it is in their natures to reject the analogy.
Meanwhile, I can't stop thinking of the parents of these two innocent people whose lives were destroyed forever by a phone call.
